Water

The main problem facing the human population’s ability to thrive now and into the future is water accessibility. Over 70% of the earths surface is water but we don't have enough how can this be you may ask. First off, only 1%of all water on earth is safe to drink and of that one percent, around 30% is stuck frozen in ice caps rendering it practically useless. The rest of the water is only accessible to people who live near a natural source of fresh water (including lakes, rivers, wells, and more) or people who live in a country with an extremely developed infrastructure adding up to far less than 100% of the worlds total population. In all other places that don't meet the water accessibility requirements people must walk for miles and hours just to retrieve just as much water as they can carry for more miles and hours and most of the time, the water isn't completely safe to drink. Luckily, there's hope. Many people all around the world are doing plenty to help people in need.

Although these issues seem glum and depressing, there are things that people are doing to help. Some may be as simple as taking shorter showers or washing their cars less, but some have gone the extra mile for no personal gain whatsoever. For instance, foundations all over the world have started popping up. These foundations aim to bring fresh water to all by building wells and helping with infrastructure.

The most straightforward fix to these problems is to create more fresh water. How can this be done you may ask-simple, desalinization of oceanic HₐO. Or we could take the harder way out and steel water from the moon and the satellites of Neptune and such. This would solve both problems because with more fresh water, more could be distributed to countries in bad shape.

Although this problem seems massive, there are things that individuals (such as the ones in our class) can do to help. First of all, take shorter showers. Next, wash cars less and water the garden as little as possible. Finally, make sure laundry and dishwasher loads are filled to the max as to use the same amount of water for more cleaning. Although there are many more steps one can take, these are the simplest and decrease water use exponentially.
